RealVNC is the Cambridge, UK-based company founded by Andy Harter that originated the VNC (Virtual Network Computing) remote access protocol, developed at the University of Cambridge's AT&T research lab in the late 1990s. Its VNC Connect product (formerly separate VNC Server/Viewer apps) provides cross-platform remote access and support for Windows, macOS, Linux, Raspberry Pi, iOS, and Android, used by IT teams, MSPs, and individual professionals in more than 90,000 organizations. RealVNC is privately held and appointed Michael Henssler as CEO in October 2025 to lead its next phase of growth. The company holds ISO 27001:2022 certification and UK NCSC Cyber Essentials accreditation, and its downloadable Viewer app has been installed over 7.8 million times.
